Where VADOC Releases Go
Virginia Department of Corrections facilities statewide hold people serving state-responsible sentences. No state prison was identified inside King William County. VADOC is therefore a destination system when Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center transfers a sentenced person into state custody, and it is the release authority when that state term ends. The local jail's current list is not an archive of the state sentence.
A state prisoner may leave confinement on discharge or parole. Parole means prison confinement ended under continuing conditions set through the Virginia Parole Board process. Discharge means the obligation identified by the issuing record has ended. Probation can also place someone under court-ordered community supervision. A community-corrections district result points to supervision, not prison custody. None of these terms should be inferred from a missing name alone.
| VADOC milestone | Best confirmation |
|---|---|
| Transfer into state custody | VADOC institution or status plus MPRSC transfer record |
| Estimated release | Precisely labeled locator date or VADOC records response |
| Parole | Actual VADOC release record and parole conditions |
| Probation | VADOC supervisee result and court order |
| Final discharge | VADOC discharge record |
Confirm a VADOC Release
The official Inmate & Supervisee Locator is the first state check. It covers people in VADOC custody and many people under VADOC community supervision. Use a known seven-digit VADOC number when possible. A name search needs at least the first three letters of the first name and the complete last name, with optional filters. The form requires acceptance of its notice and CAPTCHA.
- Search by exact VADOC number, or use the required name fields and sound narrowing details.
- Compare the full identity. Do not choose the first similar name.
- Open the detail and distinguish an institution from a community-corrections district.
- Copy the exact label on any release-related date. Estimated release, parole eligibility, supervision end, and actual release are different events.
- If the result is absent or unclear, request the VADOC release or discharge record and check the relevant court order.
The official locator screen shows the statewide search route:

The locator is a first check, while signed release documents provide stronger proof of the completed event.
VADOC Records and Contact
Because this entry describes a statewide prison network, no King William street address or single facility phone belongs here. Use the VADOC FOIA route for department records and the current facilities directory for the institution or district named on the record. Ask for an existing release, discharge, time-computation, or supervision record rather than asking staff to create a narrative.

VADOC Operating Procedure 050.6 treats projected parole eligibility, mandatory parole, and good-time release dates as releasable at the time of inquiry, subject to law and the procedure. When a public result omits or blurs a date, identify the person, VADOC number, and exact record sought. A request for the applicable release letter, Order of Release, Conditions of Probation, Conditions of Parole, or discharge entry is more precise.
VADOC State Custody Scope
VADOC is not a King William County jail. It computes dates for active state-responsible sentences under the rules that apply to the offense, sentence, and credit system. Local or state authorities calculate time depending on sentence type and active time. The department calculates release dates for qualifying Earned Sentence Credit terms over 12 months and relevant parole or good-time dates for qualifying Good Conduct Allowance terms over 12 months.
A future date is a projection. Credit class, disciplinary action, court corrections, prior jail credit, concurrent or consecutive terms, mandatory minimums, detainers, and parole action can change the path. The public field must be quoted as labeled rather than renamed for convenience.
VADOC Release Papers Matter
VADOC states that a person leaving a state facility on discharge or parole reads and signs an Order of Release, Conditions of Probation, or Conditions of Parole when applicable, with staff as witness. The person also receives a notification-of-release letter. These records are stronger evidence than disappearance from an online result because they identify the legal status attached to departure.
The VADOC facility release process says records staff address pending actions and documents, the business office can arrange bus transportation, and property staff return personal items. State-facility discharge or parole occurs by 11:59 p.m. on the release date, weather permitting. That timing belongs only to VADOC facilities and must not be assigned to MPRSC.
The official process appears in the captured state release source:

The source links physical release tasks to the signed state documents used for later verification.
VADOC Release Notifications
Virginia separates state-prison notices from local jail VINE. VADOC uses NAAVI for registered state-prison notifications and expressly says it is not connected to the local-jail VINE service. A person transferred from MPRSC into VADOC custody may require a new registration in the state system.
The VADOC notification page lists events such as transfer, advanced release, actual release, death, work release, escape or recapture, parole interview, and parole decision. Advanced release is an anticipated event, typically sent about 30 days ahead and updated if the date changes. An actual release notice means the person is no longer in VADOC custody, after which those notices stop.
The state source shows the separate notification route:

This split prevents a local VINE registration from being mistaken for statewide coverage.
VADOC Release Supervision Route
King William is served by VADOC Gloucester District 5 for state probation and parole. The researched office is at 6270 Professional Drive, Gloucester, VA 23061, with telephone 804-695-1693. A district result can route a question about current community supervision, but staff may protect case-management details. It is not a certified discharge record.
The Virginia Parole Board decides whether to grant discretionary parole. VADOC officers supervise a person after actual release. A Board grant is therefore not the prison exit timestamp. Confirm the completed VADOC release and then use the district for the present supervision route. The King William County release search explains how the local jail, courts, and state system fit in one custody sequence.
Note: No VADOC prison was identified in King William County, so always use the specific institution or district returned by the state record.
VADOC Release Date Evidence
Virginia sentence credits explain why one date may shift. Good Conduct Allowance applies to the older offense groups identified by VADOC, while Earned Sentence Credits generally apply to later felony offenses. Credit rates depend on the governing category and classification. A fixed percentage is not safe for every sentence. Prior jail credit, mandatory minimums, disciplinary losses, restored credits, and a corrected sentencing order can affect the calculation.
For a King William defendant who moved from MPRSC, reconcile the local admission and transfer dates with state intake. The two records describe adjoining custody episodes. The MPRSC row should not be treated as a duplicate VADOC release, and a VADOC state release should not be presented as if it occurred at the Saluda jail. Ask each agency for its own record when the handoff date is disputed.
A parole decision adds another stage. Eligibility means the person may be considered. A hearing shows that review occurred. A grant shows Board approval. Actual release occurs only after VADOC finishes the process, and parole then continues as community supervision. Final discharge ends that specified supervision. Keeping these stages apart makes the public locator, Board report, signed papers, and district contact consistent.
When a released state prisoner no longer appears in a useful public result, a records request is the fallback. Supply the VADOC number and enough identity data to isolate the person. Ask for the particular release or discharge entry and date. Do not assume a missing result means unconditional discharge, successful completion of supervision, or erasure of the underlying case.
